Laser Thread Vein Removal - Frequently Asked Questions

Thread veins normally develop as a person ages, this is because as we age our skin and blood vessels become more elastic and the valves that are located in our veins begin to weaken. As the valves weaken, blood flows back down the vein, as blood, like water and everything else always flows downhill which is why thread veins are most common in the legs.

We've treated 100's in Thread Vein Removal, trying and testing a multitude of lasers for the best results for all hair and skin types, we are very confident in the laser hair removal industry.
Is laser thread vein treatment safe?
Yes. Laser is non-invasive and non-ionising so therefore cannot cause malignant changes to the skin. Your safety is our number one priority.

It is important that you do not have a sun tan whilst attending for treatment – sun exposure is the single biggest limiting factor for treatment. For more information regarding this please contact us.
Does laser thread vein treatment hurt?
It may hurt a little. The sensation is similar to a short-lived pin-prick. Larger veins do tend to be slightly more painful than smaller ones.

All of our clients tolerate the treatment well without the need for painkillers. We have never had a client state that the treatment is too painful to continue.
How do I know that I’m suitable?
The veins to be treated need to be close to the surface of the skin and less than 1.5mm in diameter. Veins for treatment cannot be raised, painful or itchy. The colour of the vein is not a factor in suitability for treatment.

If you’re unsure, please contact us with a picture or come in for a consultation.
How does laser thread vein treatment work?
The laser emits a beam of light that heats the blood within the vein and the lining of the vein, causing the coagulation of blood within the vein, the contraction of the blood vessel and its eventual collapse. This vein is then absorbed back into the body.
Which laser do you use?

We use a Candela GentleMax Pro – please click here for more information.

How many treatments will I need?
Some veins only require one treatment (and on occasion even disappear immediately!). Typically a facial thread vein will only require 1-2 treatments; leg veins usually require more.

Facial treatment is spaced at every 4-6 weeks and leg treatments at 8-12 weeks. It is, however, important to note that everyone’s response to laser thread vein treatment is unique to the individual, and often to the vein itself.
How long does treatment take?
We generally book out half an hour for facial treatments. For leg treatments, we usually book in 30-minute blocks, depending on the complexity of the treatment, up to a maximum of 90 minutes. Rachel will discuss timings with you during your consultation.
Can I have treatment on the NHS?
At present, we cannot offer laser thread vein treatment on the NHS.
Do you offer a consultation?
Yes! Our consultations are free of charge and no obligation. You must attend for a consultation at least one week prior to your first treatment. Consultation appointments last approximately one hour.
